Come and explore Apsley House & Wellington Arch on Saturday 2nd January at 1pm!

Apsley House
Apsley House has been known as 'Number 1 London' and stands right in the heart of central London near Hyde Park. Built in 1778 it is the home of the first Duke of Wellington who famously defeated Napoleon at the battle of Waterloo in 1815. Wellington went on to become Prime Minister of Great Britain in 1828.
The inside of the house is spectacular, consisting of the Duke's amazing European art collection of over 200 paintings by various artists such as Edwin Lanseer, Aernout van der Neer and Peter Paul Rubens.

Wellington Arch
Set opposite the house is Wellington Arch, which offers glorious panoramas over London's Royal parks and the Houses of Parliament. Inside the arch, three floors of exhibits tell its fascinating history.

Entry to the house & arch is £7 per person, although we should get a group discount. It will probably take about 2 hours to see the entire house & arch.

Afterwards, we will be heading to Henry's Cafe Bar on Piccadilly to chat over a drink and snack. Click here for the location of the cafe...

If you can't see us at the station, give me a call.

Hope to see you there!

Good idea of Roberts to visit and a bonus for getting a discount price for us. Venue is excellent and somewhat overpowering with the splendour of a life now past. Unfortunately I couldn't make the second part at the Arch due to work calling. Thanks Robert

The Duke had an amazing art collection and the views from the top of Wellington Arch were very impressive.
    •  This has been a wonderful and informative visit. Such visits of interest add interest in our knowledge of being part of living in london and round london. A must for people who appricate the culture of london and UK.
    •  I arrived late as there were no trains. The desk at Apsley House took 5 minutes to do the ticket as the girl did not know how to use the till. A man took two of us upstairs but I lost them (I am disabled). The house attendants were considerate and helpful. The House is fantastic: it would have been nice to have a guided tour. It was easy to start a conversation with someone, assuming they were part of the group. Robert organised us well. Wellington Arch was a disappointment, the fault of English Heritage. The view was excellent. The meal was the in wrong venue. It was large, but the staff couldn't cope. Many left because there was no one to give food orders to. Other group members were as expected - pleasant, some were good communicators, others quiet. I personally had a good time as I am able to chat to anyone. I left after about an hour and went shopping in the sales. I would not have done this if I was not in Piccadilly with the group. Overall worth going to.
    •  The afternoon was well organised and there were a friendly bunch of poeple. Plus, I got to learn about somewhere I'd never visited before.

Apsley House was quite impressive, particularly the statue of a man of about 10 feet tall in the hallway. Also it was interesting to see portraits and political cartoons of the 1st Duke of Wellington. A group of students had written an undergraduate project detailing Wellington's opposition to Catholics being allowed to become members of parliament and otherwise to share the same benefits of non cathloics. A copy of this project was available to and proved to be absorbing reading. Wellington Arch was of less interest but the view from the top was worth going up for.
