Come along on Saturday 24th October at 1pm to the magnificent 17th century Banqueting House in Wesminster!
Banqueting House is the only remaining component of the Palace of Whitehall and was built in 1622 by architect Inigo Jones. Built mainly to provide entertainment for the then king Charles I, and was later the scene of his execution.
Part of the palace was used as a chapel after a fire in 1698 that destroyed the rest of Whitehall Palace, the chapel was designed by Sir Christopher Wren. During the 19th century an extensive restoration programme took place of the building overseen by architect Sir John Soane.
One of the highlights of the house is the only surviving painted ceiling by Peter Paul Rubens, which has been in situ since 1636.
I have managed to get a private guided tour round the palace for the group, entry including the guided tour is £9 each.
We will be meeting up at Westminster Tube Station, inside the station, near the ticket barriers. If you can't see us, give me a call.
Afterwards we will be heading to the pub: The Clarence (53 Whitehall) for a chat over a drink.
Hope to see you there!
Regards
Robert
