Come along on Saturday 13th March for a brief tour of the area where Charlie Chaplin grew up and then a visit to the Cinema Museum!
We will be meeting up at Kennington Tube Station at either 12pm, 1pm or 2pm, (please indicate which slot you wish to attend at, as the Cinema Museum is quite narrow inside, so they only allow small groups).
I will give a brief tour round the streets where Charlie Chaplin grew up and we will then have a private tour of the Cinema Museum.
Entry to the museum is £5 each.
About Charlie Chaplin & the Cinema Museum
Charlie Chaplin was born in 1889 in Walworth, South London and grew up in poverty in and around Kennington. As a child he spent time working in a workhouse which now houses the Cinema Museum.
Both Charlie & his brother gravitated to the Music Hall while still very young, and both of them proved to have considerable natural stage talent. Chaplin's early years of desperate poverty were a great influence on his characters. Themes in his films in later years would re-visit the scenes of his childhood deprivation in Kennington.
After proving a hit in London, Chaplin toured America between 1910-1912 with the Fred Karno troupe which included Arthur Jefferson, who would later become known as Stan Laurel (of Laurel & Hardy).
Chaplin was spotted by Hollywood film producers while touring who hired him to make films.
Having been last year with the group, the Cinema Museum is an amazing place, it's full of old posters, projectors, film reels and everything associated with the cinema from the last 100 years.
Afterwards, we will be heading to the 'White Bear pub' at 138 Kennington Road, which is near to the station. Click here for a map...
If you can't see us, please call.
Hope to see you there!

My first meetup was with Charlie Chaplin and the Cinema Museum. All Londoners should see it, the owners of the museum were really nice. it was a short and nice trip to the cinema history and to the old cinemas. Thank you Robert.
I'm sorry I missed this - can you email me details so I can go another time please?
