Come and visit the Tower Bridge Exhibition on Saturday 24th April, meeting up at 1pm at Tower Hill tube Station!
About Tower Bridge
The bridge was opened in 1894, it took eight years to build and cost just over £1m to build, five major contractors and the relentless labour of 432 construction workers to build Tower Bridge.
Two massive piers had to be sunk into the river bed to support the construction, over 11,000 tons of steel provided the framework for the Towers and Walkways. This was then clad in Cornish granite and Portland stone, both to protect the underlying steelwork and to give the Bridge a more pleasing appearance.
We will go up the north tower of the bridge and be able to enjoy the fantastic views of London from the high level walkways above the Thames. Then continue to the Victorian Steam Engine Rooms in the south tower where we will be able to see how they lift the roadway for tall ships to pass.
Group entry is £6 each (students & seniors £4.50 each) and the exhibition lasts about 1-2 hours.
Afterwards we will head to 'All Bar One' (34 Shad Thames), for a chat over a drink. Click here for a map of the bar...
Tower Hill Station has 2 exits, we will be waiting at the one slightly nearer to the Tower itself, if you can't see us, please call.
Hope to see your there.
Regards
Robert
