Come along on Saturday 22nd May at 12pm for a boat trip from Westminster to Greenwich and then a tour of the Old Royal Naval College and the Observatory in Greenwich.
The boat trip takes about 45 mins and is £12 each return or £9 single (although we might be able to get a discount), this includes a commentary from the boat driver on the sights along the river.
When we get to Greenwich we could stop for some lunch in Greenwich Park. Please bring a packed lunch or you can by sandwiches on the boat.
Old Royal Naval College
When we get to Greenwich we will be having a guided tour of the Old Royal Naval College by one of the experienced Yeomen guides. Highlights of the tour include an exclusive visit to the Jacobean Undercroft and the 140-year old Skittle Alley along with a tour of the beautiful Painted Hall (designed by Sir Christopher Wren in the 1690's) and Chapel. You will also learn about Henry VIII and Elizabeth I’s birthplace, Nelson and the Navy, the Greenwich Pensioners, Wren’s architecture and the resident ghosts. The tour is £7 per person.
Observatory
Afterwards, we can head up the hill to visit the Observatory. The Observatory is the home of Greenwich Mean Time and the Prime Meridian of the World, making it the official starting point for each new day, year and millennium. It is also home to the Harrison timekeepers and the 28-inch telescope, the largest of its kind in the UK. Entry to the Observatory is free.
Afterwards, we can head to a cafe or bar in Greenwich for a chat over a drink.
The meeting place is Westminster tube station at 12pm, near the ticket barriers, look out for the 'Cultureseekers' sign. If you can't see us, please call.
Hope to see you there.
Regards
Robert
