Come along to the British Library on Saturday 29th May to see an exhibition on 80 of the largest most impressive maps ever made from 200 AD to the present day.
About the exhibition
'Magnificent Maps: Power, Propaganda and Art' is an exhibition displaying 80 of the greatest maps in the world, over three-quarters of which are being exhibited for the first time. The maps are on paper, wood, vellum, silver, silk and marble.
Drawing on the finest collection of maps on the planet — the British Library has more than four million to choose from, the vast majority of which are only very rarely, if ever, put on public display — the exhibition sets out to make clear that these pictures are about far more than mere physical description. They are a series of subjective images, each shaped by the beliefs and desires, the ambitions and prejudices, the passions and anxieties of its period.
Entry to the exhibition is free. We will be meeting up at Kings Cross tube station near the ticket barriers at the Circle Line exit.
As always, afterwards we will be heading to a local pub to chat, the pub is the 'Euston Flyer', (83-87 Euston Road) which is opposite the library.
Hope to see you there, if you can't see us at the station, please call.
Regards
Robert
