Once a year 600 private buildings in London open their doors for the weekend and let the public in to look around and admire their architecture. 'Open House' takes place on the weekend of the 18th - 19th September and we are going to take full advantage of this visiting buildings on the Saturday and the Sunday.
Entry to all buildings is free.
So, on the Saturday we will be visiting:
The Royal Courts of Justice (built in 1874)
meeting at Temple tube station at 10am.
Designed by G E Street in the 1870's, the Royal Courts of Justice is one of Victorian London's great buildings. The style of the building is 13th century gothic given a Victorian interpretation, it's just like walking into a cathedral. Inside you will be able to sit in the courts, visit the cells and hear the stories of the criminals that have been processed their in the last 130 years.
12:30pm - Stop for lunch in St James's Park.
Marlborough House (built in 1709)
meeting at St James's Park tube station at 1:15pm
Designed by Sir Christopher Wren & Sir James Pennethorne, originally home of the Dukes of Marlborough, and later of Edward VII and Queen Mary. Now HQ of the Commonwealth Office.
St Stephen Walbrook Church (built in 1672)
meeting at Mansion House tube station (Cannon Street is shut) at 3pm
Designed by Sir Christopher Wren and was his own parish church. Within a rectangular outline is nested a square space defined by twelve columns and covered by a huge dome, which was an early version before he built St Paul's Cathedral. The church is also the birthplace of the Samaritans.
Afterwards, we will be heading to a local pub to chat over a drink.
You don't have to attend all the events, we will be meeting up at tube stations before we visit each building, so we can meet you there.
If you can't see us at any tube station or lose the group, please either text or call.
Hope to see you there!
Regards
Robert

Thanks Robert for a couple of packed Open House days, Marlborough House and the Church of St Stephen Walbrook on Saturday and City Hall and the the Rose Theatre on Sunday were amazing! And those were only half of what was on the menu - thanks again Robert! I'm sure your next event will be as good or even better. Please keep me posted!

Thanks to Robert and all new met cultureseekers for a lovely day on Saturday. Very interesting choice of buildings by Sir Christopher Wren! Hope to meet you again very soon.
Really want to do this but think I won't be able to make it as I'm having to do something else. Hope you all have a great time...Susan
